Sunshine Coast’s best-kept secret – Bokarina Beach

On the rise as the Sunshine Coast’s upcoming destination, Bokarina Beach perfectly mixes coastal living with modern design to create the perfect retreat for any traveller.

Centrally situated between Mooloolaba and Caloundra, Bokarina Beach currently provides a peaceful escape in the middle of two well-known tourist spots. With the uprising popularity this quiet treasure is receiving, I doubt this gem will stay hidden for much longer.

With so much to see and do, let me give you a rundown on what not to miss.

What to do

I think we can all agree that one of the most difficult parts of planning any trip is coming up with attractions and experiences that everyone will love. With the vast number of experiences available along the coast, finding something for everyone to enjoy is a breeze. Here are a few of the best things that you can do during your time on the Sunshine Coast.

Saltwater Eco Tours

Food, booze and didgeridoos; the perfect trio to accompany a day on the water. Simon  Thornalley and his crew have curated a delicious selection of Bush Tucker using native Australian produce which enhances the cultural, local narratives they share throughout the cruise. I can’t say I have ever met a captain that disembarks you with a stellar performance on the didgeridoo, but I couldn’t imagine any other way to end such a fantastic journey through the Mooloolaba waters.

Sealife Sunshine Coast

Calling all wildlife lovers! A lively and interactive day out awaits at Sealife Sunshine Coast located at the Mooloolaba Wharf. Weave your way through the aquarium; spotting the diverse marine life, enjoying the impressive animal presentations and experiencing the clear tunnel that allows you to completely immerse yourself within the exhibits. For those of you seeking memorable wildlife encounters, feeding the little blue penguins and swimming with long-haired seals will definitely do the trick.

Insider tip: Book the wildlife encounters ahead of time to avoid missing out as spaces are limited and tend to book out quickly.

Creative Tours

Picture this; a day spent exploring the best kept secrets of the Sunshine Coast with a local expert who presents to you the most attested activities the region has to offer. Well, look no further than a tour with Creative Tours. With options of shared or private tours, you truly have the opportunity to seek out exclusive insights to the local area. Partnering with various local businesses, the tours can be tailored to a variety of interests whether that be a behind the scenes tour at a local distillery or an afternoon wine tour with the girls.

Where to Eat and Drink

Do not, and I repeat, do not underestimate the cuisine on the Sunshine Coast. This place is a foodie’s paradise. With so many different spots to try, it can be a tough to decide…so let me help you.

Bocca Italian

One word; Bellissimo. This authentic, Italian restaurant nestled under the Bokarina Beach Apartments knows how to draw in crowds, even on a Tuesday evening. From the flavourful pastas and pizzas to the incredible cannolis with the highest quality ingredients, breaking bread with good company has never been tastier.

Casa Restaurant + Casita Wine Bar

If you are looking for amazing cocktails and a cosy atmosphere, Casita has you sorted. The beautiful interiors, friendly staff and great food sets you up for a night of splendour. For anyone who loves an espresso martini as much as I do, I would definitely order one here, it was phenomenal.

Sunday Coffee Bokarina

Start the day off right with an excellent cup of coffee at local favourite, Sunday Coffee. This aesthetically pleasing cafe will win you over with their range of hot and cold caffeinated beverages and their array of delectable bagels and fresh pastries for you to choose from. For something different, their Nitro Cold Brew Sundae is a treat which is sure to stop you on the street.

Vrina Mezze & Bar

Sharing food and laugher just like the Greeks have been brought to the Sunshine Coast at this trendy restaurant in Kawana Island. With divine dishes such as their tender Lamb Shoulder and their Saganaki (which was to die for), you can’t go wrong with any meal from this Greek taverna. With welcoming smiles and waterfront views, you don’t want to pass up a meal at this joyous venue.

Stoa Bokarina

Your favourite breakfast choices with an alluring twist. The decision of what to have for breakfast has never been harder and each meal will have you drooling. The gorgeous furnishings and minimalistic vibe allow you to fully reset, relax and enjoy the surroundings. You could even grab a takeaway coffee and stroll down to the beach to take in the sounds of the breaking waves.

Wallace & Wood Ice Cream

Wallace & Wood take you on a wild ride with their band of intriguing custard-based flavours such as their chocolate covered potato chips ice cream, Crispy Business, which will leave you wanting more. Along with their amazing ice cream, they are also known for their ceremonial grade matcha which will convert any matcha hater to a lover after one sip.

Where to Stay

Accommodation can really make or break a getaway, which is why Bokarina Beach Apartments are easily my first choice for where to stay on the Sunshine Coast. The self-contained apartments, located off the beaten track at Bokarina Beach, offer a tranquil escape from reality without isolating you from the hustle and bustle of nearby attractions and tourist spots. Without compromising on comfort or the luxury feel people seek while holidaying, the four towers (soon to be five in May) provide everything you need at an affordable price for a peaceful break—one that will ultimately make you wish you didn’t have to leave.
