FLIGHT REVIEW: Nauru Airlines – Business Class – Brisbane to Palau

Nauru Airlines, based in the small island nation of Nauru, offers a unique and vital service connecting various Pacific destinations. Known for its commitment to providing essential air links within the region, the airline has been steadily expanding its route network.

Reaching Palau from Australia just got easier with Nauru Airlines launching direct flights from Brisbane to Palau in May 2024. Dubbed the Paradise Express, the flight takes travellers to the pristine paradise of Palau faster than ever, with a 6-hour non-stop flight. The flight departs Brisbane weekly on a Tuesday at 11:30pm and arrives in Palau on Wednesday morning at 4:30am.

The primary gateway to Palau is the Roman Tmetuchl International Airport also known as Palau International Airport, which is the main airport of Palau. It is located near the former capital Koror on Babeldaob Island.

Flight ON80 from Brisbane (BNE) to Koror (ROR) is a noteworthy route, connecting Australia with Palau’s stunning archipelago. Kate Webster was onboard for the inaugural flight to Palau and this review takes a closer look at the Business Class experience on this flight.

Check-In

The check-in experience for Nauru Airlines Business Class passengers is smooth and efficient. Dedicated check-in counters for Business Class help expedite the process, ensuring minimal waiting time. Friendly staff are on hand to assist with any special requests and ensure that all necessary travel documents are in order. The process is seamless, allowing travellers to quickly move through security and spend more time relaxing in the airport lounge, with the Qantas Business Lounge accessible for business class travellers. Passengers must submit the Palau Entry Form at most 72 hours before departure at palautravel.pw. This will generate a QR code, which must be presented on a mobile device or printed copy during check-in and upon arrival.

FREQUENT FLYER: Nauru Airlines doesn’t have a frequent flyer program for earning rewards. It’s also not part of an alliance where you could use a partner airline for booking an award flight.

BAGGAGE:  In Business Class, passengers are entitled to a generous baggage allowance. Checked baggage includes up to 45kg, while carry-on baggage allows for one piece weighing up to 7kg, plus an additional personal item such as a laptop bag or handbag. This ample allowance ensures that travellers can bring all their necessary items without concern.

The Seat

The Business Class seats on Nauru Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 are designed for comfort. The 2-2 configuration means each passenger has either an aisle or window seat, with no middle seats to worry about. The seats are spacious, featuring generous legroom, adjustable headrests, and a recline function that makes it easy to relax or catch some sleep during the flight – a bonus as it is an overnight flight. However, it is important to note that the seats do not recline to a lay flat.

Inflight

The inflight experience on Nauru Airlines is characterised by attentive and friendly service. Business Class passengers receive priority boarding, and upon settling into their seats, are greeted with a welcome drink. The cabin crew are professional and courteous, making sure all passengers are comfortable and have everything they need. The smaller size of the Business Class cabin allows for more personalised service, enhancing the overall travel experience.

MEALS: Onboard meals in Business Class are thoughtfully prepared and cater to a variety of tastes. There was an option of Lamb Gnocchi with vegetables, Chicken Curry or a vegetarian option. Make sure you pre-book any dietary requirements to avoid missing out on board. Complimentary beverages, including a selection of wines, spirits, and non-alcoholic drinks, are also available throughout the flight.

ENTERTAINMENT: There is no inflight entertainment apart from the inflight magazine, but as it is an overnight flight, this really didn’t matter too much. I recommend you download some movies on your tablet prior to travel or take a book to read.

Overall – 4.5/5

The fact that you can now fly direct from Brisbane to Palau is a game-changer. Previously you had to take the island hopper which made the journey quite long. I preferred the night flight as you can arrive in Palau and start adventuring right away.
