The Botswanan Government has placed a ban on plastic bags, taking effect on 1 November 2018.

A move that African safari specialist, Abercrombie & Kent (A&K), has welcomed, the use of plastic carrier bags and any plastic flat bags (clear bags with and without zip locks) will no longer be allowed in Botswana and it will be considered an offence if found with one.

In the region, Botswana joins Kenya and Rwanda where the ban is already in place. A&K Australia’s Regional Managing Director, Sujata Raman, had this to say, “A&K is in full support of this ban. Plastic wreaks environmental havoc across the globe, negatively impacting precious ecosystems and we, like many of our guests, welcome this move. Botswana is one of our key destinations with a pristine ecology that deserves to be protected”.
