The Melbourne Cup is fast approaching, and this year is going to be slightly different when it comes to the celebrations. Since it was first run in 1861, the iconic horse race has attracted crowds to the racecourse however his year, the crowds will be kept away from Flemington and racetracks due to COVID-19 restrictions.

This means that punters will spread out to their favourite locals to enjoy the race and Salt Village in Kingscliff has just the ticket for the day. Teaming up with Husk Distillers, who are located on the Tweed Coast, Salt Village aims to draw festive crowds to a celebratory event, including a live screening of the race.

What better way to cheer on a winner, or commiserate a loss, than with a salty sea breeze and a fine cocktail in hand, and gourmet food offerings. There will be the traditional Fashions on the Field, Sweeps, Door Prizes, TAB, Sports Bar and giveaways, and with a price tag of just $15 for a reserved seat, the event is sure to be a winner.

The ticket price of $15 also includes a reserved seat, a Husk cocktail, or drink of choice (tap beer, sparkling, white or red wine) in the Husk Garden Bar or on the deck.

Husk Distillers were first known around the world for their distinctive blue INK Gin that changes colour when adding some PH, such as mixers or citrus. Now their vivid red Sloe Gin is gaining in popularity, but it all started with a dream to distil rum. The Husk Pure Cane Rum is best in mojitos, daiquiris and caipirinhas.

Why not stay the night and make a weekend of it. There is Mantra on Salt Beach, centrally located within Salt Village. As well as its superb waterfront position, Mantra on Salt offers hotel and fully self-contained one and two-bedroom rooms and suites each with a private balcony. Alternatively, there is Peppers Salt Resort & Spa, a leisurely coastal resort in Salt Village with a breezy seaside atmosphere where you can laze the days away by the resort and lagoon style pools or stroll down to Kingscliff Beach.

Tickets are limited, due to COVID-19 restrictions, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
